The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports there are over 23,000 chimney fires every year and 15,000 emergency trips to the hospital due to carbon monoxide poisoning each year. Your chimney systems are an important part of your home heating system. The National Fire Protection Association recommends an annual inspection of all chimneys, fireplaces and vents. For safe and efficient operation, your chimneys should be checked annually by a Chimney Safety Institute of America Certified Chimney Sweep and cleaned any time there is creosote buildup of 1/8" or more. Each year unsafe chimneys cause significant numbers of injuries and deaths, and account for more than $200 million in property losses. Make chimney examinations a regular part of your home maintenance schedule.
This is why the National Fire Protection Association recommends ANNUAL Inspections of all chimneys regardless of fuel type. That's not the only reason to have your chimney inspected each year. With a thorough Level 2 inspection many times small defects are identified and repaired before they become a much larger repair.
Your chimney will take from 1 to 1-1/2 hours to be cleaned. Royal Chimney has the most certified chimney sweeps in Wisconsin and is a locally-owned family business for over 46 years. All of our sweeps are Certified Chimney Sweeps with the Chimney Safety Institute of America and will be cleaning your chimney by hand with a wire or poly brush. We run a special Soot Sweeper Vacuum designed just for chimney sweeping at the base of your fireplace to control any dust from coming into your home. We also lay down a runner and tarp to protect your carpeting & floors. The cleaning includes cleaning of the flue, smoke chamber, smoke shelf, damper, and firebox area. That's everything from where you start the fire all the way up to the top.
During your sweeping our Certified sweep will check your chimney for any cracks or defects and you will be given a written 20-point safety condition report. All trucks are equipped with digital Chim-Scan video cameras to verity any areas needing attention.
A Level 2 inspection includes inspecting all readily accessible areas of the chimney exterior and interior by a CSIA Certified Sweep. The areas evaluated include the firebox, smoke chamber, flue, exterior crown, brick work, mortar joints and flashing. The readily accessible areas of the chimney flue liner is video scanned checking the integrity for any cracks, defects or missing mortar joints between the flue liner sections.
